Box Score 2 CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Gallaudet University softball team lost a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader against first-place Wilson College on the road Wednesday as the Phoenix won 10-2, 14-0 in five innings.
GU (9-21, 6-12 NEAC South) only had one hit in the second game as senior shortstop Alicia Balzer (Montgomery Village, Md.) singled in the fourth inning. Wilson starting pitcher Nicole Musser and Leigh Roche (8-4) combined to strikeout 11 of the 18 batters faced. The Phoenix improves its overall record to 18-8 and boasts an 18-2 conference mark. Sophomore Alicia Johnson (San Jose, Calif.) took the loss as she went an inning and two-thirds as she surrendered nine runs (seven earned) on six hits and seven walks. Freshman Rachel Sweigart (Big Rock, Ill.) came in on relief to finish the game.
In the first game, it took five innings before the Bison got on the scoreboard as the Bison received three consecutive hits to begin the inning. Balzer hit a RBI triple to score Tiffany Narciso (Wildwood, N.J.), who led off with a single, to get the Buff and Blue on the board. Balzer was then knocked in by Johnson with a RBI single. Sweigart (4-4) took the loss as she went the distance for the Bison.
Gallaudet will hit the road on Saturday, April 23, to face NEAC foe Penn St.-Abington for a doubleheader that will start at 1 p.m.
