CENTERVILLE, Mass. – The postseason
women's basketball awards continue to pour in for senior
forward/center Easter
Faafiti (Pittsburg, Calif.) as she was named the
2010-11 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III
South Women's Basketball Player of the Year. In addition, for the
second consecutive year Faafiti was named to the ECAC Division III
South All-Star first team.
In February, Faafiti was selected as the North Eastern Athletic
Conference (NEAC) Player of the Year and earned all-conference
first team honors. She was the only player from the NEAC to be
selected as an ECAC All-Star this year. She was honored three times
during the season by the ECAC as South Player of the Week.
The other four first-team ECAC South All-Star honorees include
Misericordia junior forward Christine Marks, Swarthmore senior
forward Kathryn Stockbower, Neumann senior guard Katie Young and
Lebanon Valley senior guard Andrea Hoover. La Roche freshman
forward Jessica Pitts earned the Rookie of the Year
distinction.
In leading the Gallaudet University women's basketball team to a
24-4 record on the year – including their third-ever NCAA
tournament berth - Faafiti racked up impressive individual
statistics. In the final NCAA Division III women's basketball
statistics she ranked fourth in double-doubles (four), 11th in
rebounds per game (13.5), 12th in points per game (20.5) and 12th
in steals per game (3.8). In the NEAC, Faafiti placed first in
field goal percentage (.531) and steals per game (3.82), second in
points per game and rebounds per game and fifth in assists per game
(4.21).
About the selection process
ECAC All-Stars, Players of the Year and Rookies of the
Year are eligible if selected as their primary conference's award
winner or all-conference first team selection. The teams and major
award winners are voted on by coaches – who were not
permitted to vote for their own players – from the ECAC
membership.
