ROANOKE, Va. – The Gallaudet University
men's swimming team had a successful day against Greensboro
College on Saturday winning 121-63. The meet was held at Hollins
University in Roanoke, Va.
The Bison (2-1) were dominant against the Pride. GU senior
Brian Bennett (Colorado Springs, Colo.) won two
individual races, finishing first in the 500 and 1,000-yard
freestyle events, with times of 5:06.97 and 11:20.92,
respectively.
Also with two individual wins was GU sophomore DJ
Everton-Lovell (Norfolk, Va.). Everton-Lovell blew away
the field in the 200-yard individual medley (2:19.65) and again in
the 200-yard backstroke (2:11.15).
Robb Ingram took home an individual first-place
finish as well, winning the 100-yard butterfly in 1 minute, 24.96
seconds. He squeaked by sophomore Richard Zabelski
(Saginaw, Mich.), who finished second by a miniscule hundredth of a
second (1:24.97).
The GU relay teams also fared well, winning both events entered.
The 400-yard medley relay team, consisting of Everton-Lovell,
senior Sean Ryant (Cleveland, Ohio), Bennett and
junior Kailob Miller (Ardmore, Okla.) won that
event in 4 minutes, 22.40 seconds. Miller also posted two
second-place finishes, in the 200-yard freestyle (2:12.74) and
200-yard backstroke (2:42.70). Ryant was second in the 100-yard
breaststroke (1:18.65).
The 200-yard freestyle relay squad of senior Daniel
Katz-Hernandez (Montgomery Village, Md.), Ingram,
Ramnath Shenoy, and Zabelski won a fairly close
race in 1 minute, 54.72 seconds.
Among the other Bison posting strong performances was
Hipolito Deluna, who took second place in the
50-yard freestyle (27.56) and the 500-yard freestyle (7:17.15).
Raihiem Marshall finished second in the 1000-yard
freestyle (18:19.05).
The Bison are back in action for their first conference meet at
home against SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, November 12, at 1
p.m.
