FROSTBURG, Md. – The 2011-12 season got
underway for the Gallaudet University men's swimming team on
Saturday as the Bison hit the road to Frostburg, Md., to take on
the host Bobcats and Davis and Elkins College in a double dual
meet. Gallaudet (1-1) began its North Eastern Athletic Conference
(NEAC) title defense and earned a split as they defeated Davis and
Elkins 90-77 and narrowly lost to Frostburg, 90-79.
Senior Brian Bennett (Colorado Springs, Colo.)
led the way with three individual wins while sophomore DJ
Everton-Lovell (Norfolk, Va.) won two events and was
second overall in another event.
Bennett took first place in the 100 meter freestyle with a
blazing time of 57.18 seconds, first in the 200 meter freestyle
(time of 2:06.75) and completed the hat trick in the freestyle with
a first-place win in the 400 meter freestyle (4:39.26), 14 seconds
faster then the next swimmer.
Everton-Lovell won the 400 IM in 5:29.04, a second ahead of
Frostburg swimmer John Gregory. He was also first in the 100 meter
backstroke as he touched the wall in 1:07.95, six seconds ahead of
Davis and Elkins swimmer Pate Mannon. Everton-Lovell was second
overall in the 800 freestyle as he finished in 10:24.71. He earned
first-place points against Davis and Elkins because
Frostburg's Bob Robert won the event (10:09.10).
The Bison will next swim in Roanoke, Va., on Saturday, October
29, against Greensboro College in a double dual meet.
