Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – The first day of October felt more like the first day of November on Saturday as light rain and an air temperature of 50 degrees greeted the men's soccer teams from Gallaudet University and SUNYIT. The first-place Wildcats jumped out in front of the Bison early and coasted to an 8-0 victory between the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) foes at Hotchkiss Field.
SUNYIT (4-4-1, 4-0 NEAC) received a hat trick from midfielder Diego Montaleza and two goals from Nico Facey, as the Wildcats remain perfect in conference play. Gallaudet (0-7, 0-4 NEAC) returned home for the first time in over two weeks but faced a tough task. The Bison struggled to get the ball past midfield most of the game as the Wildcat defense denied the Bison offensive opportunities. GU took three shots in the first half and two in the second. Junior forward Jean-Pierre Kanashiro (Springfield, Va.) led the Buff and Blue with two shots.
The Wildcats held a 23-5 advantage in shots and took eight corner kicks to Gallaudet's two. Montaleza scored the game's first goal in the 16th minute and added his second in the 28th minute as the Wildcats led 3-0. Facey added back-to-back goals as SUNYIT led 5-0 at halftime. Montaleza scored the first goal of the second half to give him the hat trick. The other goal scorers for SUNYIT were Joe Pfaffenberger, Josh Kimber and Cameron Adams.
Gallaudet sophomore Jordan Ramser (Louisville, Ky.) made eight saves in the loss while SUNYIT starting goalie Malick Faye (two saves) played 40 minutes before giving way to Justin Shade (one save), who closed out the game.
The Bison have dropped 17 games dating back to last year when GU beat SUNY Cobleskill 2-1 on the road on October 2. Gallaudet will have a chance to snap its losing streak as the Bison welcome SUNY Cobleskill to Hotchkiss Field tomorrow (Sunday, October 2) for a conference game a year to the date of last year's upset. The Bison win last year snapped a 62-game losing streak.
