Bison begin New Year with a loss against Hood

FREDERICK, Md. – The Gallaudet University men's swimming team lost 118-85 on the road Saturday against Hood College in a non-conference meet to start the second half of the 2010-11 season. The host Blazers won seven of the 11 events and swept the relays against the Bison.

Gallaudet (4-4) was led by its standout duo of junior Brian Bennett (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and freshman DJ Everton-Lovell (Norfolk, Va.). The pair won two events apiece to claim 36 of the 85 Bison points.

Bennett crushed the field in the 500-yard freestyle as he won by 46 seconds with a time of 5:08.23. He claimed first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.37. Everton-Lovell, battling the flu, took first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.59) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.98), where he won by nearly seven seconds.

The next meet for the Bison against a men's team is January 30 at home against Marymount (Va.) University at 2 p.m.
