FREDERICK, Md. – The Gallaudet University
men's swimming team lost 118-85 on the road Saturday against
Hood College in a non-conference meet to start the second half of
the 2010-11 season. The host Blazers won seven of the 11 events and
swept the relays against the Bison.
Gallaudet (4-4) was led by its standout duo of junior
Brian Bennett (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and
freshman DJ Everton-Lovell (Norfolk, Va.). The
pair won two events apiece to claim 36 of the 85 Bison points.
Bennett crushed the field in the 500-yard freestyle as he won by
46 seconds with a time of 5:08.23. He claimed first in the 200-yard
freestyle with a time of 1:59.37. Everton-Lovell, battling the flu,
took first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.59) and the 100-yard
backstroke (1:01.98), where he won by nearly seven seconds.
The next meet for the Bison against a men's team is January 30
at home against Marymount (Va.) University at 2 p.m.
