GU drops physical game to Lancaster Bible

Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. – It was a physical men's soccer game on Thursday evening at Hotchkiss Field between Gallaudet University and visiting Lancaster Bible College. The Chargers (8-6) got the best of the Bison (1-11) as the visitors scored a quick goal to set the tone en route to a 4-0 shutout. The two teams combined to commit 32 fouls (16 apiece) in the scrappy game on the pitch.

Sophomore forward Cory Greiser scored the game's first two goals as the Chargers outshot the Bison 18-6 in the first half. Greiser's first goal came 47 seconds into the game. A Lancaster shot was saved by junior goalie Poloko Qobose (Gaborone, Botswana) but was quickly mishandled and dropped in front of the left post where Greiser was positioned to knock home the ball. His second mark came in the 36th minute as junior midfielder Lawrence Lartey (one goal, one assist) made a nice save by the near sideline and sent a nice pass to Greiser, who buried the shot from 25 yards out past Qobose. Lartey added his own goal 16 seconds before the half as the Chargers led 3-0 at the break.

In the second half, both teams emptied their benches as a lot of reserves saw valuable time. The Chargers netted their final goal of the game in the 54th minute when senior forward Kyle Zook converted on a penalty kick.

Gallaudet was held without a shot in the final 45 minutes of play. Lancaster Bible finished the game with 29 shots and six corner kicks. The Bison only took two corner kicks.

Qobose finished the game with 11 saves and left after 73 minutes of play. Freshman Jordan Ramser (Louisville, Ky.) closed out the game where he made one save. Lancaster Bible junior goalie Jarrod Bergey (two saves) earned the win in net for the Chargers.

Gallaudet is off this weekend but will lace up the boots again on Monday, October 11, and travel to Front Royal, Va., to play Christendom College. The two teams met back on September 29 here in the nation's capital as Christendom won 5-1.
