Box Score STEVENSON, Md. - One losing streak continues
while another ended on Wednesday evening as the Gallaudet
University men's basketball team squared off with Capital Athletic
Conference foe Stevenson University on the road in the Student
Union Gymnasium. Unfortunately, the Bison came up on the short end
against the Mustangs, 70-63, as Gallaudet (4-12, 0-10 CAC) lost its
seventh in a row. The win snaps an 11-game losing streak for
Stevenson (2-17, 2-8 CAC), who won its first game at home this
season after nine tries.
The Mustangs complete the season sweep of the Bison as Stevenson
won the first meeting, 64-62, back on December 2, 2009.
Gallaudet trailed by as much as 15 points midway through the
first half but the Bison cut the deficit to nine, 30-21, as the
teams went into halftime.
The Bison came out of the half and went on a 19-5 run, in a
five-minute span, to take their first lead of the game up four,
49-45, with 10:12 left in the game. Sophomore guard Brandon
McMillan (Frederick, Md.) scored 10 of the 19 points while
senior guard Luther Weedon (Walkersville, Md.)
chipped in eight points during the run. The pair also drained two
three-pointers apiece in the run. McMillan finished the game with a
team-high 21 points after only scoring five points in the first
half. McMillan drained five three-pointers for the Buff and Blue.
Weedon finished with 12 points as did senior guard Johnny
Jackson (Tuscaloosa, Ala.), who also grabbed eight
rebounds. Freshman Danny Kelly (Strongsville,
Ohio) ripped down a game-high 15 rebounds to go with nine points.
Stevenson regained the lead on back-to-back three-pointers from
Patrick Lewis (19 points), who scored 15 of his 19 points off the
bench in the second half. Jackson converted a three-point play,
with eight minutes to go, to give the Bison their last lead up one,
52-51. The Mustangs went on a 13-4 run over the next five minutes
to put the game away.
GU will next host University of Mary Washington (6-11, 3-6 CAC)
on Saturday, January 30, at 4 p.m.
