Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Gallaudet University
men's soccer team suffered a 5-1 non-conference loss Saturday
afternoon to Christendom College at Hotchkiss Field. The Crusaders
sweep the two-game home-and-away series with the Bison this season.
Gallaudet (0-7) denied Christendom (5-1) a shutout as junior
Zane Noschese (Pittsburgh, Pa.) found the back of
the net as he scored with 14 minutes left in the game. Noschese's
goal was set-up on an assist from freshman defender Hayden
Teesdale (Auckland, New Zealand), who made a nice tap back
pass to Noschese at the top of the goalie box. The goal was
Noschese's and Gallaudet's second of the year. The goal ended a
scoreless drought of over 550 minutes for the Buff and Blue since
the first game of the year.
Christendom got off to another fast start against Gallaudet as
the Crusaders scored three goals in 17 minutes. In the first
meeting on September 9, the Crusaders scored four goals in the
opening 14 minutes en route to a 6-0 shutout. Crusader Paul Nagurai
led the way with two goals as Christendom led 5-0 at the half.
In the second half, the two teams played strong defense as the
game was controlled in the midfield. Christendom held a narrow 10-9
advantage in shots in the second half while Gallaudet took two of
its game-high three corner kicks in the second half.
Sophomore goalie Poloko Qobose (Gaborone,
Botswana) continues to play steady in net for the Bison. He made
seven saves in the game with none bigger than the one with four
minutes left in the game. Christendom's Anthony Readings (one goal,
one assist) fired off a shot from the left side of the net, which
would had been a goal if Qobose didn't leap to his right, leaving
his feet, to make the acrobatic diving save. Qobose's counterpart
Peter Hill made eight saves for the Crusaders.
Gallaudet returns back to Capital Athletic Conference play on
Monday when the Bison (0-1 CAC) travel to St. Mary's City, Md., to
face St. Mary's (Md.) College (2-5, 0-2 CAC) at 4 p.m.
