Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - In an up tempo
back-and-forth men's basketball game the Gallaudet University Bison
ran out of time as it lost by two points, 64-62, to visiting
Stevenson University on Wednesday evening in a Capital Athletic
Conference game before 550 at the Field House.
Gallaudet (3-3, 0-2 CAC) had to a chance to win it in the final
second but sophomore Tony Tatum's (Birmingham,
Ala.) three-pointer was off the mark as Stevenson (1-6, 1-0 CAC)
celebrated its first win of the season.
The Bison held a one-point lead, 62-61, with 41 seconds left as
sophomore guard Brandon McMillan (Frederick, Md.)
scored two of his game-high 33 points on a fast break lay-up. The
Mustangs made three free throws while Gallaudet missed its final
two shots to end the game.
McMillan scored 24 of his 33 points in the second half as he
shot 13-of-25 from the field, was a perfect 5-for-5 from the
charity stripe and drained two three-pointers for the Buff and
Blue. He added a team best nine rebounds and made three steals and
two assists in the loss.
Stevenson led for the majority of the first half before
Gallaudet stole away the lead in the final minute as McMillan
scored on a lay-up and hit on a three-pointer as the Bison led
29-26 at the break. The Gallaudet was the first since the Bison
took a 2-0 lead a minute into the game.
GU held onto the lead for an additional seven minutes into the
second half before Stevenson went on a 9-0 run to take a 45-39 lead
with 11:22 left in the game. The Bison didn't lose their composure
as Gallaudet chipped away at the lead and finally regained it with
41 seconds left.
Tatum and senior guard Johnny Jackson
(Tuscaloosa, Ala.) scored nine points apiece for the Bison. Tatum
added six assists and four rebounds while Jackson grabbed five
rebound before he fouled out with four minutes left in the game.
Stevenson was led offensively by Danny Murphy who scored 13 of
his team-high 19 points in the second half. Patrick Lewis added 11
points and 12 rebounds for the Mustangs. Both teams struggled from
three-point range as they went a combined 9-for-51. Stevenson
outrebounded Gallaudet 53-43.
The Bison will next face York (Pa.) College on the road next
Wednesday, December 9, at 8 p.m. in a CAC game.
