WASHINGTON, D.C.--The Buff and Blue picked up a pair of wins,
their first for 2008's slate in a sweep of the College of Notre
Dame. Game 1 ended with a 13-2 score, and game 2 followed with a
14-1 finish.
Gallaudet took advantage of a six-hit, nine-run third inning to
jump in front behind a season-high performance by pitcher Colleen
Tighe, who retired nine batters over five innings of work.
Freshman Casey McCullough had four RBI, with Keri Schmidt adding
a pair, and Alicia Balzer, Caitlin Mosholder and Colleen Caverly
each picking up a RBI.
During the second game, the Buff and Blue had two high-scoring
innings, nearly shutting out the visitors. Gallaudet opened with a
six-run first inning, followed by a two-run second and a seven-run
third. C. of Notre Dame scored once in the fourth.
McCullough again led the Bison offense with three RBI, making
her day's work a total of seven. Catcher Kallie Williams had two
RBI that came in the first and third innings. Pitcher Jenna Owens
earned her first win of the season as she struck out five batters.
Gallaudet (2-3-1, 0-0 CAC) will play again on Friday, March 7 at
home against Hood College in the conference opener. The first pitch
is set to go at 2:30 p.m.
