BALTIMORE, MD (1/10/07)—Gallaudet let Goucher get on top
in the 1st half but had a strong 2nd half as the Gophers outdueled
the Bison 75-68. Junior forward Sekoe White returned to form,
downing baskets for 30 points and 6 boards, improving his scoring
average to 17.6.
The Buff and Blue also received strong performances from center
Onye Davis as he posted a double-double, garnering 11 points and
collecting 11 boards. Sophomore Jon Mowl, who currently is shooting
80% from the free throw line on the season, chipped in 15 points
and 6 assists. He was also 3 for 3 from the line. "We played very
well in the 2nd half; their best player [Gopher James Russo] was
held below his season average. However, Cameron Brown hurt us by
hitting 10 for 14 from the field along with 2 for 3 3-pointers,"
Coach James DeStefano commented. Brown finished with 24 points and
10 rebounds.
The Bison went 8 for 24 compared to Goucher's 13 for 30 in
the opening half in which 15 turnovers plagued the Bison, giving
Goucher scoring opportunities. After halftime, the Bison improved,
going 16 for 35 and posting 42 points against the Gopher defense.
Gallaudet's White and Mowl combined for 34 points, while
Davis and Johnny Jackson (8 points) pulled down 16 out of 27 team
rebounds together.
Gallaudet (2-10, 0-4 CAC) continues its road trip Saturday,
January 13 against the University of Mary Washington (9-3, 3-1
CAC). The ball goes up at 4:30 p.m.
