In eight seasons, Curran led teams have won two North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) men's championship and the men's and women's programs have earned 121 All-NEAC honors.

Curran coached the NEAC's back-to-back-to-back Men's Swimmer of the Year in Ben Sealts in 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20.

In his last season at the helm, Curran guided the Bison men's swimming team to its fourth NEAC championship and took home his second NEAC Men's Swimming and Diving Coach of the Year honors. Curran was selected as the 2019-20 NEAC Women's Swimming and Diving Coach of the Year at the end of the conference championship.

During the 2017-18 season, Curran was named NEAC Men's Swimming & Diving Coach of the Year for the first time in his career as GU placed third at the championships and Sealts earned swimmer and rookie of the year honors.

Curran led the Gallaudet men's swimming and diving program back to the NEAC championship in 2013-14 in Cazenovia, N.Y., as the Bison won their third conference title. The men's team had 13 All-NEAC honorees as the women's team earned 12 All-NEAC honors as they placed third overall. Curran was named the 2013-14 NEAC Women's Swimming and Diving Coach of the Year by his peers. Anna Polivanchuk advanced to the ECAC championships held in Annapolis, Md., where she competed in the 50-yard freestyle, 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle. During the 2013-14 season, Anna Polivanchuk set over 10 school records, including all four relay events, while Rebeeca Lopez set a new diving school record and Anna's sister Alexandra set a new record in the 50 butterfly.

In 2012-13, Curran led the defending NEAC men's conference champions to a third-place finish at the NEAC championships while the women's team placed fourth overall. Curran had five different swimmers earn All-NEAC honors as the men's team had seven honorees and the women's program had six All-NEAC honors. In addition, one swimmer (Lisa van der Mark) was honored with the NEAC Inspirational award. Gallaudet's Alexandra Polivanchuk set four school records during the 2012-13 season in the 50-yard breaststroke, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard IM and the 200-yard IM.

Curran served as an assistant coach in 2011-12 under former head coach Bill Snape, who stepped down after eight years at the helm. Curran was appointed as GU's new head coach in March 2012.

Curran has many years of coaching swim clubs and teams over the years but this is his first collegiate job as a head coach. He started swimming when he was 19-years-old and made the Tulane University swimming team where he became a two-time All-American in the 50-yard sprint in 1966, ’67. While at Tulane he helped to coach the Green Wave Swim Club for four years. He was inducted into the Tulane University Hall of Fame in 1985. Curran graduated from the University of New Orleans in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. He later earned a Master of Science degree in Computer Systems Management from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1977.

Curran served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years as a pilot and recently served as the Chief Information Officer for the National Park Service. He was also appointed to the U.S. Federal Government’s senior executive service in 2003 and joined the Department of Commerce where he served as the Director, Telecommunications Operations Center for the National Weather Service. Curran retired from the Navy in 1988 and retired from the National Park Service in 2010. Curran was born in Boston and grew up in Mobile, Ala., with a few years spent in France.

“The opportunity is there for whomever wants to swim at GU. We can tailor our program to reach our team and individual goals. We need swimmers that have the right attitude and are ready to compete at the collegiate level,” said Curran. “My responsibilities don’t end with just swimming as I hope to provide some building blocks for our student-athletes to reach their life goals as well as their swimming goals. I will try and take everyone as far as I can get them.”

Curran resides in Bethesda, Md. He and his beloved wife, Judy, raised twin daughters Allison and Marisa.
