FREDERICK, Md. – The Gallaudet University softball team couldn't overcome Hood College on Wednesday afternoon as the Bison dropped a non-conference doubleheader, 17-0 and 15-2, in five innings on the Blazers' campus.
Gallaudet (4-13) has now lost seven straight, while Hood (9-18-1) capitalized at the plate with 23 walks and 20 hits in the doubleheader.
Game 1: Hood 17, Gallaudet 0 (F/5 innings)
The Blazers jumped out to a 9-0 lead over the first two innings and never looked back. Hood added eight more runs across the next two innings to secure the eight-run, five-inning mercy rule win.
First-year first baseman
Mattea King (Capitol Heights, Md.) broke up Hood's Taylor Lowe's no-hit bid in the fifth inning with a single through the right side of the infield.
Sophomore pitcher
Olivia Wascher (Noblesville, Ind.) took the loss in the circle.
Game 2: Hood 15, Gallaudet 2 (F/5 innings)
Gallaudet pulled within one run in the top of the third inning after senior outfielder

Hood responded and capitalized on the Bison miscues in the field and scored the next 12 runs. The Blazers took advantage of seven walks and two errors to score 11 runs in the bottom of third inning to clinch the eight-run, five-inning mercy rule win.
Drolsbaugh finished the second game with two hits. First-year second baseman
Leokadia Saunders (Indianapolis, Ind) recorded her first collegiate hit with a single up the middle in the top of the fourth inning.
