Bison dominate under the lights, set sights on Saturday showdown

WASHINGTON – Gallaudet University continued its dominant start to the 2026 women's flag football season here Wednesday night at Hotchkiss Field as the Bison rolled to a 52-0 win over Howard Community College in a non-conference game under the lights.

Gallaudet (4-0) overwhelmed Howard CC from the outset as the Dragons, making their season debut with just eight players, struggled to keep pace. The game was shortened after a 10-minute third quarter due to the lopsided score.

The Bison erupted for 22 points in the first quarter and added 24 more in the second to build a commanding 46-0 halftime lead. GU tacked on six points in the abbreviated third quarter before the contest was called.

This marks the third time in four games this season that Gallaudet has scored 52 or more points. The Bison are averaging 48.0 points per game while allowing just 5.0 points per contest, as the defense recorded its second shutout of the season.

Senior quarterback Gianna Visco (Riverside, Calif.) led the charge in the first half as she completed 10 of 17 passes for 125 yards and five touchdowns. Visco also added 32 rushing yards on four carries and scored once on the ground.

First year quarterback Shaelyn Johnson (Redlands, Calif.) directed the offense in the second half and completed 7 of 11 passes for 57 yards and one touchdown in the shortened third quarter.

Gallaudet's receiving corps showcased its depth and playmaking ability. First year Tiana Starayev (Noblesville, Ind.) led all receivers with five catches for 78 yards and two touchdowns, including a long reception of 40 yards. Sophomore Jada Zarembka (Riverside, Calif.) added three receptions for 23 yards and two touchdowns while sophomore Citrine Lummer (Frederick, Md.) caught four passes for 36 yards and one score. Johnson hauled in a 15-yard touchdown reception while first years Brittany Rivera (Hesperia, Calif.) and Alona Zfati (Frederick, Md.) contributed to the balanced attack.

The Bison defense was just as dominant as it held Howard CC to -17 yards of total offense, including -31 rushing yards and just 14 passing yards.

First year Tamara Tadevosyan (Austin, Texas) led the defensive effort with three tackles, and an interception return of 11 yards. Sophomore Mariyah Saldana (Salt Lake City, Utah) added two tackles and returned an interception 16 yards while fellow sophomore Sofia Giansanti (Rome, Italy) recorded the Bison's third interception of the game.
