GU moves up to fifth place at the 2025 AEC women's swimming championships

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - Gallaudet participated in day three of the 2025 Atlantic East Conference swimming championships here Saturday at The Aquatics Center at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center on the campus of St. Mary's College of Maryland.

The competition began this morning with preliminary events in which GU swam for qualification in the finals that evening. A placement of 16th and above qualifies a swimmer for the final competition.

Leading the day in the 400-yard IM for Gallaudet was junior Sam Michaelson (Southwick, Mass.) and sophomore Tiadra Vang (Kansas City, Kan.) as they placed ninth and 10th with times of 7:21.54 and 8:34.57, respectively.

In a tight race during the preliminaries, first year Joy Watkins (Hockley, Texas) swam into 13th place in the 200-yard freestyle, less than one second behind Immaculata University's Ava McEntire. The pair traded places in the finals as Watkins surpassed McEntire with a time of 3:15.25 to move up to 12th, just two seconds ahead of her Immaculata competitor.

GU's hard work for day three ended with the 100-yard breaststroke. Together, first year Eliza Peterson (Snellville, Ga.) and Vang swam the event. Vang finished in 15th place (1:46.62) while Peterson came in right behind her in 16th (2:04.71) to close the night out.

Gallaudet ascended to fifth place out of six teams with 153 total points.

St. Mary's College of Maryland is dominating the championships and hold a commanding lead in first place with 568 points. Marymount (Va.) University is a distant second with 395 points followed by Marywood University in third (325). Immaculata moved down to fourth place with 283 points. Gallaudet rose to fifth place with 153 points and Cedar Crest College has fallen to sixth with 142 points.
