WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet women's swimming team competed in a non-conference double-dual meet against Goucher College and McDaniel College here Saturday in the Field House Pool.
The Bison landed one more home meet after a last-minute change in location from the Goucher pool to the Field House.
Gallaudet (1-11) fell short to both Goucher and McDaniel, with scores of 121-47 and 147-40, respectively. McDaniel claimed victory over both teams as the Green Terror defeated the Gophers, 103-84.
The Bison swam their hardest in their last regular-season meet before the Atlantic East Conference championships being held next month. Despite the loss, some of GU's nine swimmers were able to swim to the podium. GU secured third place at the very start of the meet with the 200-yard medley relay team of senior
Jaelynn King (Springfield, Pa.), sophomore
Tiadra Vang (Kansas City, Kan.), sophomore
Sam Michaelson (Southwick, Mass.), and first year
Melany Salcedo Benavides (2:20.91). Soon after, King went on to land a solo third place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 18:22.81.
During the meet's 10-minute break, Goucher had the opportunity to honor its five seniors in the last regular-season meet of their collegiate swim careers since its pool was closed.Â
The Bison swimmers then closed out the meet the same way it had opened with a team of
Anita Makhnyk (Mississauga, Ontario), first year
Alecia Miller (Litchfield, Ill.), first year
Joy Watkins (Hockley, Texas), and first year
Thea Wrenn (Anchorage, Alaska) battling for third in the 200-yard freestyle relay (2:31.59).
McDaniel won six of the 11 events, while Goucher won the other five.Â
