READING, Pa. – Gallaudet University softball played its final non-conference games here Friday on the road against Albright College. The Bison dropped the twin bill by the scores of 10-2 in six innings and 3-0.
Albright (7-28) snapped its six-game losing streak with the wins over GU (4-26).
Game 1: Albright 10, Gallaudet 2 (F/6)
Gallaudet held a 2-1 advantage in the third inning and had the bases loaded with two outs but couldn't add to its lead.
Junior
Karla Gomez-Zepeda (Santa Rosa, Calif.) picked up an RBI in the second inning with a walk with the bases loaded.
First year
Olivia Taufu'i (Blackfoot, Idaho) recorded an RBI single to left field in the third as GU left the bases loaded for a second straight inning.
The Bison took the one-run lead into the bottom of the fourth where Albright scored twice off three hits. Bison starting pitcher
Christina Elsbury (Uniontown, Ohio) recorded two quick strikeouts before the Lions manufactured two runs as Monica Hernandez came through with a two-run single up the middle.
Albright went on to score four runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to end the game by the eight-run mercy rule.
Elsbury (2-13) took the loss as she logged 5.2 innings and recorded six strikeouts.
Jadelyn Van Winkle (4-12) earned the win for the Lions as she threw the final four innings and struck out three Bison. GU drew nine walks from the two Albright pitchers.
Game 2: Albright 3, Gallaudet 0
It was a pitcher's duel in the second game as runs were hard to come by. Gallaudet had nine hits, the third highest mark in a game this season, and had runners on base in every inning but one.
Albright matched Gallaudet with nine hits and left 10 batters on base. The Lions scored two runs in the bottom of the third on a two-run single from Kathryn Baptiste and added another run in the fifth on a double steal as Madison Lasko swiped home.
Kaitlyn Aasheim (2-8) picked up her second win of the season and finished with six strikeouts in seven innings pitched.
Sophomore
Lacey Drolsbaugh (Lansdale, Pa.) took the loss with one strikeout in six innings pitched. GU made three errors in the field with two coming in the fifth inning when the Lions scored one unearned run.
Drolsbaugh led all batters with three hits and Elsbury finished with two to lead the buff and blue. Gallaudet's first six batters in its lineup recorded at least one hit each.
