Gallaudet sweeps Valley Forge as Bison pick up first wins of the season

WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University rallied in both games here Thursday as the Bison defeated University of Valley Forge 5-1 and 13-10 on a blustery day at the GU Softball Complex.

Gallaudet (2-2) feel behind 1-0 to Valley Forge (0-4) in the top of the first inning of the first game but the Bison responded with three runs in the bottom half. Sophomore Christina Elsbury (Uniontown, Ohio) tripled to center field to bring home sophomore Lacey Drolsbaugh (Lansdale, Pa.). First year Andi Sisemore (Arlington, Texas) followed and doubled home Elsbury and later scored on a passed ball.

Elsbury (1-1) got locked in pitching for the Bison as she threw a complete game and allowed the one earned run in the first inning and struck out six batters, walked three and surrendered six hits in the win.

Sisemore (3-for-4, two RBI) singled home Elsbury (3-for-4, two runs) in the sixth and junior Caitlyn Smith (Indianapolis, Ind.) doubled to plate Sisemore to cap GU's scoring in the first game.

In the second game, both teams came out swinging as each scored three runs each in the first inning and Valley Forge plated six in the top of the second and GU tallied four runs.

Patriot catcher Ava Page hit a three-run triple in the second to go with a sacrifice fly in the first inning to lead all batters with four RBI.

GU knotted the game at 9-9 with two runs in the bottom of third and took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth with four more runs.

Drolsbaugh (1-1) took the win in the circle for the buff and blue as she threw six innings and allowed one unearned run on two hits, walked one and struck out 10 batters.

Gallaudet's top of the lineup (first five batters) went 12-for-18, scored 10 runs and drove in 10 runs.

UP NEXT
GU will be off next week for Spring Break. The Bison will next host New York University on Tuesday, March 19, in a non-conference doubleheader.
