WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's swimming team hosted an Atlantic East Conference double-dual meet here Saturday in the Field House Pool as the Bison welcomed Marymount (Va.) University and Cedar Crest College.
Gallaudet (0-4, 0-1 Atlantic East) lost a close meet to Cedar Crest, 91-90, and lost 131-59 to the Saints. Marymount (2-1, 2-0 Atlantic East) defeated Cedar Crest (1-4, 1-1 Atlantic East) by 75 points, 125-50.
The Saints won 10 of the 11 events while Cedar Crest finished with one first-place finish.
A fairly new team, many of the Bison swimmers found themselves in the GU competition pool for the first time this season.
Thea Wrenn, a first year from Anchorage, Alaska, improved her own personal record (PR) by an astounding 18.66 seconds, placing third in the 200-yard freestyle (2:44.84). Wrenn also landed fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:14.79).
Mara Land (Dell Rapids, S.D.) began their first 1,000-yard freestyle with no previously recorded seed time. Nevertheless, the second-year swimmer secured a second-place finish with a time of 15:03.29, completing the race behind Marymount's Sydney Runk (11:51.94).
Of note, a myriad of Bison swimmers achieved third-place finishes, as well. The 200-yard medley relay team consisting of first year

Elizabeth Peterson (Snellville, Ga.), sophomore
Sam Michaelson (Southwick, Mass.) and first year
Danielle Fisher (Pittsburgh, Pa.) posted a time of 2:53.07.
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of junior
Molly Headrick (Vista, Calif.), Land, Wrenn and Peterson finished with a time of 2:23.10.
Other GU third-place finishers included Makhnyk with a new PR in the 50-yard freestyle (28.49) and Headrick in her first 100-yard backstroke (1:22.60). Headrick also placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (30.98), just behind her teammate (Makhnyk).
BISON TRACKS
- Joy Watkins (Hockley, Texas), Jaelynn King (Springfield, Pa.), Priya Masilamany (Brampton, Ontario) and Melany Salcedo Benavides (Woodbridge, Va.) were fourth in the 200-yard medley relay (3:52.45).
- Kathe Wilken-Yoder (Oviedo, Fla.) was fourth in her first 1,000 yard freestyle (17:46.32)Â
- Michealson was fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:38.72) and fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (8:47.20)
- Tiadra Vang (Kansas City, Kan.) was fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:55.70) and fifth in the 100-yard backstroke, besting her own personal record by 18 seconds (2:02.97)
- King was fifth in the 100-yard butterfly (2:02.54) and seventh in the 200-yard IM (3:42.00)
- Talia Boren (Fair Oaks, Calif.) was fifth in the 500-yard freestyle (9:26.58)
- Watkins was sixth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:39.43)
- Salcedo Benavides was sixth in the 50-yard freestyle (49.86)
- Priyanthi was seventh in the 50-yard freestyle (51.45)
