LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Gallaudet University women's swimming team began the 2024-25 season here Saturday at Randolph College in a tri-meet with the host WildCats and Sweet Briar College.
Gallaudet (0-2) lost to Randolph, 186-40, and lost to Sweet Briar in a closer meet, 122-70.
The Bison sent nine swimmers to the meet to compete. Gallaudet swam in 11 of the 14 events.
GU started the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2:36.28. The team consisted of junior
Molly Headrick (Vista, Calif.), first year
Anita Makhnyk (Mississauga, Ontario), first year
Thea Wrenn (Anchorage, Alaska) and senior
Jaelynn King (Springfield, Pa.).
Makhnyk just missed a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:02.98 just behind Randolph's Katelyn Spuchesi in first with a time of 59.84 seconds.
BISON TRACKS
- Headrick too fifth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:41.63), sixth in the 50-yard freestyle (31.26)
- King finished fifth in the 500-yard freestyle (8:38.82)
- Wrenn was third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:28.85), sixth in the 200-yard freestyle (3:03.50)
- Sophomore Tiadra Vang (Kansas City, Kan.) finished fourth in the 1,000-yard freestyle (21:04.69), sixth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:40.21)
- Sophomore Priya Masilamany (Brampton, Ontario) took fifth in the 50-yard backstroke (54.93), ninth in the 50-yard freestyle (53.50)
- First year Joy Watkins (Hockley, Texas) finished sixth in the 50-yard backstroke (1:03.47), ninth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:59.30)
- First year Eliza Peterson (Snellville, Ga.) took third in the 100-yard breaststroke (2:33.94), placed eighth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:55.75)
- First year Melany Salcedo Benavides (Woodbridge, Va.) finished 10th in the 50-yard freestyle (1:00.09)

Gallaudet is off for until next month when the Bison will host conference foes Cedar Crest College and Marymount (Va.) University on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m. in the Field House pool.
