SCRANTON, Pa. - The Gallaudet University women's swimming team battled both Marywood University and Cabrini University here Saturday in a tri-meet hosted at Marywood's pool.
Gallaudet won its first Atlantic East Conference meet of the season with an 81-36 victory over Cabrini. The Bison (2-10, 1-5 Atlantic East) dropped an 83-60 contest to the host Pacers of Marywood. The Pacers (7-7, 3-3 Atlantic East) completed the sweep with a 73-26 win over the Cavaliers (0-8, 0-5 Atlantic East).
In addition to the win, the Bison had various victories among the races within the meet, the final Atlantic East Conference regular-season competition of the season.
Senior
Mara Land (Dell Rapids, S.D.) achieved a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of one minute and 21.42 seconds. Land placed third in the 200-yard freestyle (2:35.25) behind Belinda Hedden of Cabrini in second and Emerson Gellert of Marywood in first place.
First year
Tiadra Vang (Kansas City, Kan.) achieved a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (42.23) behind sophomore teammate
Molly Headrick (Vista, Calif.) in second (31.30). Headrick left with another second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (7:06.81) behind Marywood's Sam Peck (6:00.34).
First year
Ellen Schloemer (Cincinnati, Ohio) came in third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:13.33 and took second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:35.21).
First year
Sam Michaelson (Southwick, Mass.) finished second in the 100-yard butterfly with a new personal record of 1:47.04.
Three of GU's swimmers dominated the 100-yard IM with Headrick in first (1:21.47), Land close behind in second (1:22.61) and Michaelson in third (1:41.53).
UP NEXT
Gallaudet's next meet will take place at home on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 1 p.m. for a non-conference meet against Goucher College and McDaniel College.
