WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's swimming team dove back into the pool here Saturday in a home Atlantic East Conference meet against Marymount (Va.) University. GU's five swimmers were no match for the Saints as the visitors coasted to a 141-27 win in the Field House pool.
The Bison five continued to push themselves and set several personal records (PR) and tried some new events in the process.
First-year swimmer
Ellen Schloemer (Cincinnati, Ohio) exceeded her 200-yard freestyle PR by an impressive 16 seconds, with a new time of 2:49.24. Similarly, first-year
Tiadra Vang (Kansas City, Kan.) obtained her own personal record in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:38.30.
Some of the GU competitors participated in an array of races for the first time today.
Sophomore
Molly Headrick (Vista, Calif.) took on the lengthy 1,000-yard freestyle event and finished third with a time of 14:46.83. Swimming the 200-yard IM, with no previous recorded times, were both Vang in third place (4:19.82) and newly joined senior
Mara Land (Dell Rapids, S.D.) in second place (3:00.60). Land also finished fourth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:14.30) and was fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:35.20).

Kelly Carbajal (Rilato, Calif.) came together to finish third in the 200-yard freestyle relay (2:35.56).
Marymount (6-2, 5-0 Atlantic East) won all 10 events.Â

Gallaudet (1-9, 0-4 Atlantic East) will next travel to Scranton, Pa., to take on conference foes Cabrini University (0-5, 0-2 Atlantic East) and Marywood University (5-4, 1-2 Atlantic East) next Saturday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m. on Marywood's campus.
