Gallaudet falls to Hollins in women's swim meet on the road

ROANOKE, Va. - The Gallaudet University women's swim team came up short on the road Saturday at Hollins University, 166-54.

The Bison had a nail-biting victory in the 50-yard freestyle claimed by sophomore Molly Headrick (Vista, Calif.) who touched the wall first with a time of 30.63 seconds to edge out Hollin's Amanda Cash (31.77). Headrick had another daringly close race in the 100-yard freestyle, as she fell two-tenths of a second short of first place with a time of 1:10.31. Hollin's Mia Bollerer took first in the 100 free (1:10.13).

First-year Brenna Koskie (Milton, Ontario) finished second in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 45.32 and placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:40.53).

GU picked up second-place finishes in the two team relays. The 200-yard medley relay team of Headrick, Koskie, sophomore Paola Sarabia (Yuma, Ariz.) and first-year Tiadra Vang (Kansas City, Kan.) posted a time of 2:59.46.

The Bison finished the meet with the 200-yard freestyle where the team of Headrick, Koskie, Vang and first-year Kelly Carbajal (Rilato, Calif.) finished in 2:35.50.

In the end, Gallaudet's five swimmers were not enough against Hollins' eight as the host won 13 of the 14 events.
