WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's swimming team began conference play here Saturday as the Bison hosted a double-dual meet against St. Mary's College of Maryland and Cedar Crest College. The Bison lost 163-70 to Cedar Crest and 160-60 to St. Mary's. Cedar Crest defeated the Seahawks, 123-117, as all three teams began Atlantic East Conference competition.
Despite the losses, the Bison (1-6, 0-2 Atlantic East) achieved a variety of personal victories. GU achieved various personal records (PR) on the team including three set by sophomore
Molly Headrick (Vista, Calif.), who set personal records in the 50-yard freestyle (30.00) in third place, the 500-yard freestyle (6:56.99) also in third and in the 100-yard IM (1:23.12) with a sixth-place finish.
Overall, a total of nine personal records were broken by five different swimmers today.
BISON TRACKS
- First-year Sam Michaelson (Southwick, Mass.) had a PR in the 1,000-yard freestyle (17:02.85)
- First-year Kelly Carbajal (Rilato, Calif.) posted a PR in the 50-yard backstroke (52.09) and 100-yard backstroke (1:59.32)
- First-year Ellen Schloemer (Cincinnati, Ohio) set two PRs with a third-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (1:13.25) and fourth in the 50-yard breaststroke (40.5)
- Sophomore Sonya Szywala (Phoenix, Ariz.) tallied a PR in the 200-yard freestyle (3:18.70) with a fifth-place finish
- Junior Amelia Oliver (Elkridge, Md.) was second in the 50-yard freestyle (28.69) and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:18.33)
- First-year Tiadra Vang (Kansas City, Kan.) finished sixth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:45.65) and fifth in the 50-yard breaststroke (1:06.42)

Gallaudet will next travel to Immaculata University (1-2) in Pennsylvania on Friday, Nov. 17, at 5:30 p.m. for a conference meet.
