WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's swim team dropped its 2023-24 home opener to McDaniel College here Saturday by the score of 110-48 in the Field House pool.
The meet marked the return of former Gallaudet swim coach
Bill Snape, who is the new head coach at McDaniel. Snape coached at GU from 2004-12 and was the head coach for current Gallaudet head coach
Brian Bennett.Â
Gallaudet's 200-yard medley relay team took second against the Green Terror with a time of 2:38.88 to begin the meet. The team consisted of sophomore
Molly Headrick (Vista, Calif.), first-year
Brenna Koskie (Milton, Ontario), junior
Amelia Oliver (Elkridge, Md.) and sophomore
Paola Sarabia (Yuma, Ariz.).Â
The Bison concluded the meet with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 2:21.77. The team consisted of Headrick, Oliver, first-year
Sam Michaelson (Southwick, Mass.) and first-year
Tiadra Vang (Kansas City, Kan.).
Oliver swam a close race against McDaniel's Abigail Cook in the 50-yard freestyle as the visitor touched the wall in 26.78 seconds while Oliver was close behind in second with a time of 28.29 seconds. Vang finished third in the 50-yard freestyle (43.47) just behind Oliver.
Headrick took second in the 100-yard freestyle (1:08.00) while Koskie took second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:39.07) and third in the 100-yard freestyle (1:33.00).Â
Michaelson took second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (17:16.07) and third in the 500-yard freestyle (8:24.20).Â
First-year
Kelly Carbajal (Rilato, Calif.) finished third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 2:15.91.Â
