Oliver and medley relay take first place against Randolph College in home opener

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's swimming team had its home opener here Saturday in the Field House pool as the Bison welcomed Randolph College to campus for a non-conference meet. The Bison swam before a spirited crowd but in the end lost, 122-72, to the WildCats. 

Gallaudet (0-2) won two of the 14 events as its 200-yard medley relay team of junior Dakota Ronco (La Mesa, Calif.), freshman Katie Seffens (Castro Valley, Calif.), sophomore Samantha Moore (Tucson, Ariz.) and senior Jaelynn King (Springfield, Pa.) finished in two minutes and 44.75 seconds. 

Sophomore Amelia Oliver (Elkridge, Md.) won the 50-yard butterfly in a very close race with Randolph's Katie Scifres. Oliver touched the wall first in 33.01 seconds followed by Scifres at 33.86 seconds. Oliver placed second in the 50-yard backstroke (34.64) and 100-yard freestyle (1:04.64). Oliver joined Ronco, Seffens and Moore on the second-place 200-yard freestyle relay team (2:08.44).

Ronco finished second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 3:12.26 while Seffens finished second in the 50-yard breaststroke (42.02) and 200-yard breaststroke (3:30.80). King took second in the 100-yard IM (1:47.39) and 200-yard butterfly (4:39.50).

Freshman Sonya Szywala (Phoenix, Ariz.) placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 3:35.64.

BISON TRACKS

  • King placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke (4:18.82)
  • Szywala finished third in the 50-yard freestyle (41.38) and 200-yard backstroke (4:38.64)
  • Freshman Amanda Hardin (Snellville, Ga.) took third in the 50-yard freestyle (47.12), 50-yard backstroke (59.78) and 100-yard freestyle (1:58.02)

UP NEXT
Gallaudet will begin Atlantic East Conference competition next week when it travels to St. Mary's College of Maryland to face the host Seahawks and Cedar Crest College on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 1 p.m.
