WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University swimming program made its Atlantic East Conference debut here Saturday in the Field House pool against Immaculata University. The Bison women's team lost to the Mighty Macs, 189-56.
Immaculata won all 14 events as the Bison had a handful of podium finishes.
It was a close race in the 50-yard breaststroke as sophomore Jenna Kutsov (Newark, Calif.) just missed winning the race with a second-place finish (46.74 seconds) as Immaculata's Courtnee Gallo won the event with a time of 46.40 seconds. Sophomore Dakota Ronco (La Mesa, Calif.) placed third (49.08) just a few seconds off the top time.
Gallaudet took second and third in the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle events as junior Jaelynn King (Springfield, Pa.) and sophomore Chelsea Gonzalez (Warwick, R.I.) took second and third in both events. King's time in the 500 freestyle was 8:45.29 and 1,000 freestyle (17:16.53). Gonzalez finished the 500 freestyle in 12:11.05 and 1,000 freestyle in 24:47.11.
Ronco added more third-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (1:28.26) and 200-yard IM (3:19.57)
BISON TRACKS
- Kutsov finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:54.43)
- Sophomore Paola Sarabia (Yuma, Ariz.) placed third in the 100-yard butterfly (2:03.77)
- Freshman Kayla Rubano (Fort Myers, Fla.) took third in the 200-yard freestyle (3:14.04)
- GU's two relay teams finished third; 200-yard medley relay (3:05.41) and 200-yard freestyle relay (2:30.27)
UP NEXT
Gallaudet will next travel to Allentown, Pa., next Saturday, Nov. 13, to swim against St. Mary's College of Maryland and Cedar Crest College in an Atlantic East Conference dual meet.
