WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's swimming and diving team opened up the 2016-17 season here Saturday with a 108-87 victory over Sweet Briar College in the Field House pool.
Freshman Julia Miller-Notestone (Medford, Ore.) led the Bison with first-place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly (1:18:41) and the 500 freestyle (5:54:32). Miller-Notestone finished second in the 200 IM (2:32:47).
Junior Jana Kiefer (Leander, Texas) finished first in the 1,000 freestyle (14:16:25) and placed second in the 100 butterfly (1:22:34) and the 500 freestyle (7:00:67). Nine different Bison set personal record(s) during the meet.
The victory gives the Bison great confidence as they begin the new season.

- Freshman Jackie Perkins (Hampton, Va.) finished first in the 200 freestyle (2:35:49)
- GU won four out of the 11 events
- Gallaudet wore special pink swim caps to show its support for Breast Cancer Awareness month
