FROSTBURG, Md. – The 2011-12 season got
underway for the Gallaudet University women's swimming team
on Saturday as the Bison hit the road to Frostburg, Md., to take on
the host Bobcats and Davis and Elkins College in a double dual
meet. Gallaudet (1-1) began its North Eastern Athletic Conference
(NEAC) title defense and earned a split as they defeated Davis and
Elkins 122-33 and lost 116-53 to Frostburg.

Alyssa Gleason (Springfield, Va.), Valerie
Farr (Fremont, Calif.) and Brittany
Turner and Tandy Lewis (Frederick, Md.)
won in 2:34.69 to edge Frostburg who touched the wall in
2:34.99.
Senior Jennifer Hagerty (West Chester, Pa.) was
second in the 800 meter freestyle as she finished in 16 minutes, 41
seconds. Farr placed second in the 400 meter IM with a time of
6:51.03 followed by Gleason in third at 7:47.15. Farr also took
second in the 100 meter backstroke in one minute, 34 seconds.
The Bison had a nice showing in the 400 meter freestyle relay as
the team of Esther Drake, junior Randi
Medugno (Fremont, Calif.), junior Brandi
McGowan (Front Royal, Va.) and Hannah
Wheatcroft finished second to Frostburg with a time of
5:54.84.
The Bison will next swim in Roanoke, Va., on Saturday, October
29, against Hollins University and Greensboro College in a double
dual meet.
