Hoy Field

Gallaudet's baseball field is named after William Ellsworth “Dummy” Hoy, the first deaf baseball player to have a professional career in the major leagues, whose plaque overlooks his namesake field from behind home plate. As part of a remodeling project that began in 2011, the field was completely redone with Field Turf, save for an all-dirt pitching mound. Hoy field measures 304’ and 319’ down the right and left field lines, respectively, and reaches 397 at its deepest point in left-center. It also features two double-pitcher bullpens, a batters’ eye and an impressive 27’-wide scoreboard. The first contest on the remodeled field occurred on April 10, 2012 when the Bison split a doubleheader against St. Mary’s College of Maryland. In the near future, the field will sport lights, sunken dugouts, a concession stand and a press box.
